- View or send the files to another location once they are malware free
- Scan multiple files at once
- Scan external files attached to e-mails and files access from remote locations
- Automatically update malware definitions

Add A Location

VirusBarrier iOS lets you scan files from a number of different locations. Viruses on cloud drives can easily spread to other devices and people. Add and scan remote locations to catch malware before it infects your device. To get started scanning files, choose the location that you want to scan from the list that appears. The options are:

Dropbox: Scan files in your Dropbox. Requires an active Dropbox account.
Drive: Scan files in your Google Drive. Requires an active Google Drive account.
OneDrive: Scan files in your OneDrive. Requires an active OneDrive account.
FTP Server: Scan files on your FTP server. Requires a valid FTP server login. FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a legacy protocol used to transfer files over the Internet. It is still widely used to download some binaries files, or to upload to a website.
Website: Scan a website for Phishing URLs, Web Threats, and other malicious code such as javascripts and malware. Levels is the number of pages that VirusBarrier will scan. The main site is level one (, the pages it links to a second level ( and so on.
WebDAV Server: Scan files in your WebDAV server. Requires a valid WebDAV server login. WebDAV is a protocol based on web standards allowing you to browse a remote folder. It is used for many NAS solutions and some cloud providers.

Single or Multiple File Scan

Scanning a Single File: After selecting a location, you can browse a list of files and folders that you want to scan with VirusBarrier. To scan any individual file, simply tap it from the list view that appears and VirusBarrier will immediately scan it for malware.

Scanning Multiple Files: To scan multiple files at once, tap the Select option in the top right corner of the screen.

This will now allow you to pick and choose any file from the list that you want to scan. A checkmark will appear next to any files that have been chosen.

You can tap Select All to have VirusBarrier scan all files in the current location. Once you have made your selections, tap the Scan option in the bottom right corner of the window and VirusBarrier will begin scanning your files.

E-Mail Attachments

E-Mail is one of the most common sources of malware in iOS. Before you open any attachment from an e-mail, scan it in VirusBarrier to make sure that it does not infect your device. To scan an attachment, simply do the following:

- Tap and hold your finger over the attachment until the share sheet pops up:

- In the middle section of the share sheet, select 'Open in VirusBarrier'
- The VirusBarrier application will open and perform the scan
- If no malware is found, you can return to the e-mail and feel safe to open the attachment

Note: VirusBarrier cannot scan picture files directly from Mail due to an iOS limitation, however, there is a workaround to scan image attachments.

- Tap and hold your finger over the image until the share sheet appears and select the option for Quick Look:

- Your image will appear on the screen. Tap the Share option in the top right corner: Share_Icon.PNG
- You will now be presented with the option to scan the image in VirusBarrier:

Scan From Apps

The VirusBarrier extension allows you to scan one document at a time from other apps. Tap Share Icon.PNG to open the share sheet. In the bottom section, select 'More':

Turn on the VirusBarrier extension:

Return to the share sheet and select 'Scan with VirusBarrier' from the action menu. VirusBarrier will open and perform the scan.

The Results window displays a list of all files that have been scanned by VirusBarrier iOS. You will use this section to manage files that have been scanned, and repair or delete any infected files that may appear in red as seen below. Tap the Clear All option to remove the list once you have completed taking action on all infected files.

Repair or Delete Infected Files

To manage an infected file, select it from the list to take action:

Choose Repair to remove the infection from the file, or Delete to completely remove the entire file from your device. Once the repair operation has finished, the file will appear again in the Results window, with the green checkmark confirmation that the infection has been repaired. You can choose the file from the list, and now safely View or Send the file to another App.

View and Send Files

VirusBarrier iOS also allows you to view a file directly inside the same window, or to send the file to another App for further usage.

View File will display the contents of the file within the VirusBarrier iOS app.
Send File will allow you to safely send the file to another app, or to e-mail the file to a third party.

Update Virus Definitions

By default, VirusBarrier iOS will automatically update to the latest version of definitions to scan for the latest viruses and malware threats. You can disable this option if you prefer to update manually by toggling the Automatically Update option to the 'Off' position. Definitions will only be downloaded when your iOS device is connected to a WiFi network. To update definitions any time, enable the option Allow Updates On Cellular Data. Note: Standard data rates apply for downloading virus definitions over a cellular network. Please consult your cellular data plan for any limitations or additional costs that may be applied by your service provider.

You can also tap the Definitions Up to Date option at any time to check for new updates. You will see the date of the latest definitions file released here: Last Update: M/D/Y
