General troubleshooting steps
Note:
- Proceed to the next step only if the previous one does not resolve the problem.
- For problems with the IoT dashboard or apps, proceed to the IoT section of the article.
Try other server locations
Test out other server locations based on the type of content you want to access:
| Accessible worldwide | Accessible to specific regions only (geo-blocked) |
| Connect to at least 3 server locations from the app recommendations. | Ensure that you are connected to a server location where the content is available. Connect to at least 3 server locations if there’s more than one for that location. |
- Click the > next to the location section (below the power button).
- Use the search bar and type streaming optimized.
- Select your desired server location and reconnect.
Change protocol
Cycle through all the available protocols on the app to check which protocol makes the content accessible.
- Ensure you are disconnected from the VPN (stop any attempt to connect).
- In the VPN app, go to Settings > Protocols.
- Select a protocol you haven’t yet tried.
- Reconnect and test access again.
Change the platform you use
Try a different method to access the content.
- Via Browser: Try a different browser to access the website.
- Via App: Re-login to the service app and try if it’s accessible. If problems persist, access the service using a browser instead.
IoT Device Access While on VPN
Sometimes, using a VPN can make it harder to access smart devices (IoT devices) such as home cameras, smart lights, or smart appliances. To fix this, you first need to know where the VPN is turned on. There are two common cases:
VPN is on the device you are using (phone, tablet, or laptop)
- Usually, this should not cause problems. As long as you have the correct information (such as the login or web address for your device), you should still be able to connect.
VPN is on your Wi-Fi network (VPN router)
- If your Wi-Fi itself is using a VPN, your smart devices may appear to have a different IP address. This can make it harder to connect to them from outside your home.
What you can do:
- If you can’t connect to your smart devices, try turning off the VPN on your Wi-Fi for a moment.
- Once you have access, you can turn the VPN back on if needed.
