VPN - About Split Tunneling

Split Tunneling is a feature built into the Intego Privacy Protection VPN that allows you to specify whether or not an application will use the VPN when connecting to the internet.

Please note, if you are using macOS Sequoia, you will need to implement some additional steps to enable the Split Tunnel option. For more information on Split Tunnel and macOS Sequoia, visit the link below:

Once the box to enable Split Tunneling has been checked, you can now click the 'Add Application' button to select an application on your computer to add to the Split Tunnel Rules List.

A window will appear where you can select the application you wish to add from a list of your Applications.

Click and select the application you wish to add to the Split Tunnel list, and then click the 'Open' button in the lower right corner of the window. Once an app is added to the list, it may need to be quit and reopened to take the Split Tunneling feature into effect. Applications added to the app exclusions list can always be removed by clicking on the ‘X’ for each entry on the list.

You can also set rules for individual applications by clicking on the downward pointing arrow to the right of the application name. Options to bypass the VPN and to only use the VPN are available and can be seen in the image below.

IP Addresses and subnets can also be added to the Split Tunnel Rules list and can be excluded from the VPN. Both IPv4 and IPv6 are supported. The IPs and subnets specified in these rules are routed through the normal non-VPN gateway (your router or modem).

You may see the message shown in the image below when enabling Split Tunneling if you are using a Mac running macOS Mojave and Catalina. If you experience any network connectivity issues with the Split Tunnel feature enabled while on macOS Mojave or Catalina, please disable the Split Tunnel feature.
